At
least two Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee have refused to pledge support for the
health-care reform bill scheduled for a vote this week, according to The
Washington Post. Meanwhile, Roll Call reports, "There's no end in sight for the health care debate in the House, and behind the scenes, Democrats are pointing their fingers at the Senate Finance Committee's slow pace, the White House's lack of guidance, and their own Caucus' warring factions for the delays." That's not surprising considering Sen. Thomas Carper (D-DE), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, told CNSNews.com that he does not expect to read the actual legislative language of the committees health care bill because it is confusing and that anyone who claims they are going to read it and understand it is fooling people. Doctors, not invited to the Rose Garden today, outline what they would have told the President in today's Wall Street Journal, "The United States has the best health care in the world today, and thanks to the ever-expanding frontiers of science and medical innovation the brightest days are ahead. It is true that there are Americans who fall through the cracks of our medical system every day-and as a caring nation, we must do what we can to expand access to medical care to those who need it. But this can be accomplished without a costly and inefficient government overhaul of the entire system. One easy reform would be to enable individuals to buy policies offered in any state, not just where they live. This will enhance competition. But more government-run health insurance will only lead to disaster." The Council for Affordable Health Insurance argues for building upon the states health care systems. |
